The Ndoto Project is a non-profit entity which seeks to effect positive change in Africa, beginning with its young people.
We believe that part of harnessing that willpower is investing in youth, by aiming squarely at the crippling need which stands between them and their ability to become empowered changemakers.
In a globalized society, with the developing world lagging behind the developed by significant margins, we are striving to close the gap in several areas:
college education (by funding the cost of school for promising young leaders, through a combination of donor funding, microfinance and job training),
technology and media literacy, and
global awareness about issues affecting Africa and the world.
In sum, we seek to cultivate educated and empowered leaders who care.
Our primary objective is to give our students access to a college education. But we also equip and train our students with the basic tools they require to share their stories with the world. For many, this means rudimentary access to technology, such as a computer and internet access. Once the goal of ICT is established, through blogging, photography, social media and other forms of sharing, participants are given voices to enlighten others outside of Africa about the personal struggles they face and the social and political problems they care about.
